Standing in my yard looking up into the incredible canopy of trees above me, I opened my arms wide and said, “I love you! You are my community.”
I was in one of those incredible places that many of us get to experience from time to time when we know, on a deep spiritual level, that there truly is no separation.
I allowed my heart to keep opening until I felt that everyone on my incredibly neural diverse street was part of me, as were the stray cats, cooing doves, the early morning sun on my face and the wet earth under my bare feet.
Getting back into my daily routine inside my house I still felt an expanded presence, yet I knew I was separate from my neighbor and that the trees and I were different. We are all given life by the same sweet essence of the Divine, yet the paradox is that I need boundaries in this everyday world.
I need to know that “no” is a complete sentence. Being an empath I need to be able to protect myself against energies that are not helpful, and may even be harmful. I even endeavor to protect myself against untrue thoughts that arise within my own head!
So yes, I accept that on the mental, emotional and physical level I need boundaries. On the spiritual level there are no boundaries and it’s fun to see how far and wide I can expand that.
And what a life giving, nourishing, nurturing experience it is to feel! It is this knowing deep in our bones, this knowing that everyone has if they pay attention, that can keep this world sane. (Or make it sane again.) It’s what we pay attention to that creates love or fear. Not that they can’t live in us simultaneously, but where do we choose to focus?
Do you have boundaries that work for you? And are you able to let them go when not needed?
Both ways create a sense of safety that allows me to be more authentically bold in the world. I love to work with women who are experimenting with boundaries on any level.
